Welcome to the Storied Imaginarium
Generative writing workshops for the wicked, the damned, the curious, the wild, and the strange.
Who We Are
The Storied Imaginarium started as a brain child of Carina Bissett in 2016. Since then she’s worked with hundreds of writers on thousands of stories and poems. The unique, intensive workshops at the Storied Imaginarium offer a safe place for a generative writing experience and the deeply-rooted connection of a caring community. Participants in these workshops have gone on to publish in a wide array of anthologies and magazines including Apex Magazine, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Clarkesworld, Escape Pod, Fantasy & Science Fiction, Fantasy Magazine, Gamut Magazine, Nightmare Magazine, PULP Literature, Strange Horizons, The Sunday Morning Transport, and others. You can find links to participant publications on our website.
“The best writing career money I ever spent was on the Storied Imaginarium Monstrous Women writing course presented by Carina Bissett. We studied together, wrote stories based on that week’s module, and then critiqued each other’s work. I immediately sold two pieces that I had written in the workshop, and made dear friends that I still associate with. I’m planning to sign up for another one of Carina’s classes next time they open. It was astronomically helpful and inspiring.” — Mercedes M. Yardley, author of Little Dead Red (Storyville: What’s the Best Money You’ve Spent on Your Writing Career?, column by Richard Thomas)
A New Beginning
At the beginning of 2024, we knew we wanted to expand our offerings, and we decided the best way to make this move was to turn Storied Imaginarium from a one-woman show to a community cultural collective. In January we registered as a corporation, and in May we received our 501(3)c status from the IRS. Behind the scenes, we’ve been busy!
As part of the move to a more sustainable form of communication, we decided to move our newsletter to Substack. This is a free publication, which is dedicated to sharing the success stories of our students and the announcement of new courses currently in the works.
However, we are also planning a series of features including a monthly round-up of submission calls, essays on subjects of interest, and writing-related articles. Although we intend to keep our general offerings free to all subscribers, we are looking at creating special offerings for paid subscribers. Best of all, your subscriptions and donations will forward our mission to offer scholarships to voices from writers who have been disenfranchised, overlooked, traumatized, and silenced. We hope you will join us on this journey.
